Decided to have some fun last night (okay some of us have sick ideas of ‘fun’) after loading up for the Superstars Tribute Live! event tonight in Simcoe, I decided to pull out a few strobes and the good old camera.
Here are few captures.
Off to Simcoe…

Sad News: Rebecca’s Final Show.
by Ryan Joyce on May.11, 2009, under Events, News

Rebecca took the stage for the last time on May 9, 2009.
Well sad news here at camp Joycee. After 10 years Rebecca Blundell my onstage partner and dear friend took the stage for the very last time. Truly a sad day for all of us.
Imagine defining yourself in 10 years. Every ounce of me is my career, so the people I work with are my life. With Rebecca we’ve crossed the country more times than I can count, travelled the world, had a lot of good laughs, and a few tears. We’ve survived unbelievable performance conditions, disastrous tour managers, countless hours in hotel rooms, even more hours in a vehicle, snow storms, ice storms, tornadoes, forest fires, and Chinese food before a show. LOL!
There are soo many memories, so many inside jokes, so many stories.
From the first show in high school to her last show on May 9th I can truly say it has been the greatest pleasure sharing the stage with a true professional, but more importantly a best friend.
I am going to miss you, and wish you the best.
Best,
Ryan
…and the truck was filled with… weed?!?!
by Ryan Joyce on May.09, 2009, under Events, Fun, News, Touring Life

Truck filled... raining, humid but wonderful day!
Running around this morning getting ready for our show in Orangeville. Picked up the 5 ton and they guy says to me: ”It’s going to smell like weed”
This was of course a curious statement that required an explanation.
Apparently the cops used the truck the evening before to take down a grow-up. Sure enough there was a marijuana leaf on the back of the truck floor as proof.
True story. I can see the headlines if a cop pulled us over and asks to check the back.
“No officer I am not smuggling drugs, this is a magic show.” to which he’d probably respond “Sure Sure… we get this excuse all the time… Magic Show. Come up with something original next time!”
Off to Orangeville… we’ll see ya there. If not check the police station.
Best,
Ryan
House is Live!
by Ryan Joyce on May.03, 2009, under Events, News, Touring Life

So yesterday we were gigging but I am wearing the other hat. Not the performer hat… not the dunce cap… but producer cap (oddly resembles a dunce cap.) Here is what I am talking about: almost two years I ago I created a show called Superstars Tribute Live! with my dearest friends Victoria and Andrew. Talk about a WOW show… 9 tributes to some of the greatest superstars of all time. Inclusive of skimpy Cher costumes and glittery Neil Diamond shirts.
Basically not much different from a good magic show. Skin, sequence and rockin tunes. :)
Anywho we had a great attendance, great venue, sound check was awesome. Now its show time. Would you believe the power adapter for the wireless microphone dies right at curtains.
Go figure.
Thousands of dollars worth of equipment, backdrops, million dollar talent. 29.99 power adapter.
Improving comedy with a waiting audience… priceless.
The show must go on.
Fire truck eating extinguishers!
by Ryan Joyce on Apr.24, 2009, under Events, History, Touring Life

In 2007 we got a call from my good friend David Matthews and volunteer firefighter in the town of Alexandria, MB. We always have the privilege of meeting up with him on our Western Tour and this year he asked if we were up for a challenge. One of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced… make a full size firetruck disappear? Without hesitation or any further knowledge I accepted. We had only a matter of hours to get everything in place and be back at the Television studio for an afternoon interview, promoting the next days performance.
We hit the deck running.
It was a cold, wet and rainy day for September. We found a suitable location in the heart of the prairies. All we needed were some firefighters, extinguishers and a fire truck.
The concept was simple. One continuous camera shot, the two firefighters standing in front of the truck would shoot the extinguishers and as soon as the smoke cleared the firetrucks would be gone.

The good news is that it worked, in fact it looked amazing. The bad news is we can’t share it with anyone because when we reviewed the footage we discovered that the fire extinguisher chemical dust had destroyed the tape!!!! Much to our disappointment, however we did have a lot of fun with our firefighter friends and good friend David Matthews. There maybe a chance to get the video tapes restored, we have located a company in Vancouver that can attempt to restored damaged footage.
I wonder if they’ve ever had footage of a firetruck disappearing?

The look of disappointment - reviewing the damaged footage!
